Starlink’s technology and infrastructure has been improving… It’s not an Elon Musk gimmick!
We now can seriously consider this revolutionary tech as an option when looking at backup connections for businesses. We unboxed and booted-up the Starlink High-Performance; giving you an MSP’s eye-view of the tech, its capabilities and when you should, and more importantly, when you shouldn’t use it.
Here’s a quick breakdown of some common Starlink questions:
Is it an affordable option?
Yes, gives great resiliency for the price.
What are the negatives?
No Static IP, so you probably wouldn’t want to run a full business on it. But it will work as a backup connection.
Which is better, Starlink or 5G?
5G Internet solution would probably work for most people or businesses. We suggest Starlink is for the outliers, where 5G signal is poor and a backup line would be too costly or impractical.
What speeds can I expect?
We ran speed tests on our Starlink High-Performance and this is what we found:
Internet Speed: 190 Mbps
Latency Unloaded: 28ms
Latency Loaded: 37ms
Upload Speed: 6.3
Our conclusion:
Although Starlink may not be our first point of call for businesses just yet; we can see the value this piece of revolutionary tech can have for those businesses who are in a more remote setting and where standard solutions may not be as easily accessible.
As for the future of this technology, who knows what may be capable. But for now, we will certainly be adding this in our toolbox of solutions for those more unique cases.
